Houndstooth is owned and led by Chef Cheyenne Galbraith, who opened the restaurant in 2019 in the heart of Southwest Michigan with a vision of creating an adventurous and welcoming dining experience rooted in creativity, hospitality, and bold flavors.
Before returning home to Southwest Michigan, Chef Cheyenne built her culinary career working in kitchens throughout the Southern United States and the American Southwest. Those experiences continue to shape the philosophy behind Houndstooth today: food should be soulful, approachable, seasonal, and deeply connected to both people and place.
Under Chef Cheyenne’s leadership, Houndstooth has become known for its ever-evolving menu, open kitchen experience, craft cocktails, and warm atmosphere within the Benton Harbor Arts District. Her mission goes beyond serving memorable meals—she is equally passionate about creating a collaborative and respectful environment where hospitality professionals can learn, grow, and thrive.
At Houndstooth, dining is about more than just food. It’s about connection, storytelling, creativity, and gathering around the table with friends old and new.

Houndstooth offers a variety of seating options designed to create an intimate and interactive dining experience in the heart of the Benton Harbor Arts District.
The restaurant features traditional table seating along one side of the dining room, perfect for date nights, group dinners, and relaxed dining experiences. The centerpiece of Houndstooth, however, is our extended counter seating that runs throughout the restaurant.
Guests seated at the counter enjoy a front-row view of either the open kitchen or the bar, creating a unique experience where you can watch the energy, craftsmanship, and creativity unfold throughout service. Whether you’re dining solo, enjoying cocktails, or looking for a more immersive experience, counter seating offers one of the most memorable ways to experience Houndstooth.

While Houndstooth does not offer a traditional kids menu, we are happy to accommodate younger diners whenever possible. We can often prepare simpler options such as buttered noodles or simplify certain menu items to better suit younger tastes.
We also find that many kids discover one or two favorite dishes from our regular menu, even without a dedicated children’s menu. Our team is always happy to help guide families toward approachable options for younger guests.
-
Yes! Many items on the Houndstooth menu are naturally gluten-free or can be modified to accommodate gluten-free preferences. Our team is happy to help guide you through available options during your visit.
If you have celiac disease or a severe gluten allergy, please let your server know so our kitchen can take the proper precautions while preparing your meal. Please note that we do not have a dedicated gluten-free fryer, so cross-contamination may still be possible.
-
Yes! Houndstooth allows guests to bring in their own wine and offers corkage service for a fee of $35 per bottle.
If you have additional questions about wine service, special bottles, or dining reservations, our team is happy to help prior to your visit.
